Karl Elsener began to provide the Swiss Army with their official Soldier knife in 1891, and Wenger Delemont became joint supplier of Swiss Soldier knives in 1908. There have been five basic designs of the Soldier knife (introduced in 1890, 1908, 1951, 1961 and 2008), plus some minor variations.
